LSI Wins EPA's 2021 Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award

  • LSI wins recognition as an EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year, driven by the Design for the Environment (DfE)-certified, unique formulation NUGEN® EHP RTU.
  • LSI develops innovative solutions to promote safer chemistry, mitigate against environmental harm and improve consumer choice.

Morristown, USA, 7 October 2021 – LSI has been named a 2021 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winner by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for outstanding achievement as the solution provider of NUGEN® EHP RTU. LSI is among the 33 Safer Choice Partner of the Year award winners.

LSI is committed to developing innovative public health solutions that reduce environmental impact and promote the use of safer chemistry. LSI launched NUGEN® EHP RTU in North and South America in a step towards fulfilling that commitment.

NUGEN® EHP RTU is a patented, EPA Design for the Environment (DfE)* certified formulation that provides disinfection with low contact times – three minutes against many harmful pathogens including Norovirus. NUGEN® EHP RTU also kills SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in one minute. The formula utilizes hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient along with other sustainable ingredients. The pathogen claims and kill times also provide strong performance for industrial and institutional (I&I) markets. NUGEN® EHP RTU combines efficacy with good cleaning properties.

“This achievement is a major step forward for LSI in our goal to use our industry-leading expertise to provide safer and more sustainable solutions for homecare and professional use. The disinfection market priorities are changing, elevating the importance of hygiene routines whilst also striving for more options based on sustainable chemistry. LSI is focused on discovering and developing innovative solutions to meet these needs and maintain our position as a recognized, reliable and sustainable partner. We are committed to furthering development of disinfection solutions that meet the standards of the DfE program, and NUGEN® EHP RTU is one example of this commitment.” Craig Carter, LSI’s Marketing Director Americas, says.

About the EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards:

EPA developed the Partner of the Year awards to recognize Safer Choice partners and stakeholders who have furthered the safer chemistry and safer product goals of the Safer Choice program. Winners have demonstrated active and exemplary participation in the design, manufacture, selection, and use of products with safer chemicals.

To qualify for the Safer Choice label, a product must meet the EPA’s Safer Choice Standard, which includes stringent human and environmental health criteria. The Safer Choice program currently partners with nearly 400 formulator-manufacturer partners who make approximately 2,000 Safer Choice-certified products for both retail, industrial and institutional (I&I) customers.

For more information about the Safer Choice Partner of the Year awards, visit: www.epa.gov/saferchoice/safer-choice-partner-year-awards.

* Safer Choice and Design for the Environment (DfE) are a family of labels.  DfE is different from Safer Choice. DfE products are registered under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and meet stringent EPA criteria for health and the environment. There is not an EPA award like Partner of the Year for the DfE program and companies that produce DfE-certified products are eligible to win a Safer Choice Partner of the Year award.

About EPA Safer Choice Program

The Safer Choice program, formerly known as the Design for the Environment (DfE) Safer Product Labeling Program, was developed in 1997 and draws upon chemical and environmental expertise from across the EPA. Safer Choice uses the technical tools and expertise of the EPA’s New Chemicals Program to evaluate the environmental and human health impacts of every chemical ingredient in a product, allowing only the safest ingredients in certified products. As a voluntary partnership program, Safer Choice brings all interested parties together to advance sustainability in chemical products. Safer Choice currently certifies approximately 2,000 products.

EPA's Safer Choice program focuses on identifying safer chemicals. Their approach to product review is grounded in EPA’s 50 years of experience in evaluating the human health and environmental characteristics of chemicals. This expertise enables the Safer Choice program to go beyond established lists of problematic chemicals and to use expert judgment to determine the likely health and environmental hazards of chemicals that haven’t been widely studied. When the Safer Choice label appears on a product, it means that EPA has evaluated every ingredient in the product for potential human health and environmental effects and that, based on hazard and risk information, the latest models and predictive tools, and expert scientific judgment--the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class. Safer Choice works closely with companies to help them understand the chemical composition of their products and to select safer alternatives to chemicals that pose potential health or environmental concerns. Safer Choice certification represents a high level of achievement in formulating products that are safer for people and the environment.

Safer Choice-certified products help consumers and commercial buyers identify products that meet performance standards and are made with safer ingredients. Finding cleaning and other products that are safer for you, your family, and the environment should be easy. That’s why the EPA has developed the Safer Choice label.
